Report on Region Final of Junior Dragons Den
With: Mr. Mc Hugh
On Thursday, November 22nd, four groups of Transition Year students went to Sligo for the Regional Final of Junior Dragons Den. There were 11 students in total, one teacher (Mr. Mc Hugh) and 4 parents that travelled to Sligo.
When we got there, we set up our displays and prepared for the judging. Before the judges came around, some other people that were there too came around and asked us about our products. It was really helpful and it was good practice before we talked to the judges. There were 15 other groups there too.
The products from our school were: “Ladder Tool Holder”, “Word Bank”, “Cooking Your way to Independence” and “Chipless”. The judges were really nice and they were not too hard on us. They said that they hadn’t expected the products to be so good, and they were astounded. They said that they had found it so hard to pick 10 groups to put through, so they agreed with the producers to let 13 groups through. Unfortunately, “Chipless” did not get through to the National Final, but the other 3 did. There was such excitement on the way home and Mr. Mc Hugh was delighted. Our school had the most entries in Ireland.
The next stage of the competition is the National Final which will be help in Dublin on 8th December. “Ladder
Tool Holder”, “Word Bank” and “Cooking Your way to Independence” will all go to this and hopefully get through to the next part of the competition. This involves 10 products being chosen from the National Final, to go the Dragons Den, to make a pitch and hopefully be successful.
It was a great day, and even though “Chipless” didn’t get through, it was a great experience for them, and all the others.
