Cúl Cailíní
TY girls Aoife and Niamh organise exciting games for the first year girls in the Cúl Cailíní Club.
The TY's decided to play 'Stop the Bus' and wrote a number of headings on the board. The students had to write down the names of words that began with a letter of the alphabet. While initially the students wrote down frequently used words they soon realised that the best chance of winning the game was to come up with more original ones as these got extra marks if no-one else listed the same word. Unknown to them their literacy skills were being put to good use and numeracy was also required as the totting up had to be done without a calculator.
It was great fun as everyone got a chance to say for example who their favourite band was and Rian having come up with the word 'Leeches' explained what they were used for in tudor times. The break flew by with not enough time for everyone to get a treat but it will be all the more reason to return next week for more games and treats. By Niamh and Aoife Oct 2012 |
